We’ve been publishing our various art guides (shows/fairs, workshops, books, etc.) for several years now. You may have noticed in this issue that we’ve switched things up just a bit. In the past, our Art Materials & Supplies Guide typically appeared in the December/January issue, but we’ve moved it to August/September as a nod to the traditional school year—think of it like creating your “back-to-school” art supplies shopping list. And the December/January issue will now feature a more broad Holiday Gift Guide.

Turn to page 33 to browse through some of the top quality materials in this issue, all available to purchase. Throughout the rest of pages of this magazine are some truly stellar demonstrations that go deeper than ever, from William Liao’s moody urban nocturnes in acrylic, to Kim Lordier’s painterly pastels, to Kelsey Wilson’s rich and vibrant watercolor botanicals. I’m also excited to point you toward a comprehensive feature article on the neon avian art of New York City-based painter Gigi Chen on page 36.

I must also give a very warm and gratitude-filled farewell to our resident columnist and art guru Harley Brown. He’s been with us since the beginning, and is now retiring from his writing to take some incredibly well-deserved time for himself. We wish him the very best, and I know his days will continue to be filled with the same passion, curiosity and unbridled imagination Harley has carried his entire life.
