We have nurtured emerging talent, elevated master artists, and created opportunities for education, mentorship, and recognition. Recently, we were honored and humbled to receive a legacy gift of extraordinary generosity—one that reflects a profound belief in our mission and in the enduring importance of portraiture and figurative art. This remarkable contribution is more than a financial milestone, it is a powerful vote of confidence in the work we do and the future we are building. It stands as a testament to the lasting impact one individual’s vision can have on an entire community.

At the same time, we find ourselves entering a new chapter as we undertake a thoughtful rebranding of the Portrait Society of America. This evolution is not a departure from who we are, but a clearer expression of it. It reflects our desire to better communicate our mission, expand our reach, and engage a broader, more diverse audience while remaining firmly rooted in the values that have defined us from the beginning.

Together, this legacy gift and our rebranding effort mark a pivotal moment, one that invites us to think expansively about our future and the role we can play in shaping it. Giving, in our context, is about more than financial support. It is an investment in artistic legacy. It is a commitment to preserving the highest standards of portraiture and figurative work while also encouraging innovation and growth. Yet, as we celebrate these milestones, we also recognize the evolving needs of the members we serve. The world of art continues to change, and with it comes both challenge and opportunity. It is in response to this moment—and inspired by both this extraordinary legacy gift and our renewed vision—that we are proud to introduce a new giving campaign, one that reflects both our heritage and our aspirations for the future.

Our faculty artists, such as Anna Rose Bain, generously donate their time, skills, and knowledge at our annual conference, especially through popular portfolio critique sessions that provide attendees with valuable feedback and guidance.

 

This campaign is built on the belief that collective support can elevate the entire field of portraiture. By coming together, we can expand our educational programs, increase scholarship opportunities and enhance the reach and impact of our annual conference and competitions. We can provide greater access to resources for artists at every stage of their journey, from students discovering portraiture for the first time to seasoned professionals refining their mastery.

Our vision is both ambitious and achievable. We seek to strengthen our foundation while also investing in new initiatives that will carry our mission forward. We aim to broaden our audience, deepen engagement within our community, and ensure that the art of portraiture remains vibrant and relevant in the years to come.

As chairman, I am continually inspired by the dedication and passion of our members. I have seen firsthand the transformative impact of this Society, not only on individual artists, but on the broader cultural landscape. I have seen careers launched, skills refined, and lifelong connections formed. These are the outcomes of a community that understands the true value of giving.

This new campaign is an opportunity to build on that legacy. It is a chance to honor the extraordinary generosity that has brought us to this moment, to align our renewed identity with meaningful action and to multiply our impact through collective commitment.
