1. My giant easel. I designed this counterweighted, track mounted easel to easily handle paintings up to 8-by-13 feet. It has really spared my back from trouble.

2. Lighting. I often work at 5:30 in the morning, so a constant source of high-quality light over the easel is essential.

3. My “office” area, with inspirational art books, computer and printers. And some vintage fly rods to remind me to take the occasional day off.

4. Viola da Gamba. Originally educated as a musician, I find great pleasure and inspiration in playing in the evenings after long days at the easel.

5. My taboret. I have four wooden bins for the paints, some buckets for brushes and a box for utensils, right where I need it. There’s a cart for palettes and more brushes on my other side. —
